The Magician is an Australian crime mockumentary that follows charismatic, yet volatile hitman Ray Shoesmith around Melbourne while he is being filmed by his media student neighbour. As he goes about his chilling business - threatening violence and in some cases making good on those threats - the camera continues to roll, fuelled by offbeat conversation, dark humour and emotional crises.
The film was originally shot over 10 days with a budget of A$3,000. It premiered at the Sydney Film Festival on June 18, 2005.
